D-Day to Berlin Freedom is Not Free
presented by
Mike Freeland
author of Blood River to Berlin & Time and The River A Memoir
Mike Freeland served as a decorated front line combat medic with the famed 82nd Airborne Division from Normandy to Berlin. His story takes you through the frozen Ardennes Forest–battles now known as the Battle of the Bulge, to meeting the Russians at the Elbe River, liberating a concentration camp and on to Berlin. His story is not one to glorify war but is one to recount some of the horror and price that is paid for peace. Freedom is not free.
Mike Freeland and his wife Ellen live in Hopkinsville, Kentucky less than one hundred miles from his birth place in Henry County, West Tennessee. They live with Callie, their collie and Jo Jo, a fiesty min-pin. Mike serves as an adjunct professor at Austin Peay State University where he is still teaching leadership classes to soldiers at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He keeps his hand in radio by doing an occasional Big Band record show at WKMS station in Murray, Kentucky.
